Countering corruption

It is unfortunate that our global image as a nation has diminished over the years. While corruption and nepotism have become the order of the day, merit and competency have lost their meaning. Have we forgotten the time when our forefathers fought for Independence? Did they sacrifice their sweat, tears and blood for this day?

Most of us want to accumulate wealth and are not interested in working for the poor who are deprived of even basic facilities. In light of these irregularities, how can we call ourselves citizens of a democratic and welfare state?
