DPO sacks SI for manhandling minor girl

SIALKOT: DPO Asad Sarfraz Khan on Saturday sacked SI Tahir Mehmood and ordered registration of a case against him for torturing and breaking the arm of a man besides manhandling a minor girl.

The DPO also suspended Sadar police SHO Mian Jabbar with immediate effect and appointed Zulfiqar Cheema as new SHO. The accused SI, who was appointed at Sadar police station, had manhandled a minor girl over a minor issue near Dheera Sanda village in the limits of Sadar police a few days back. Yaseen, a relative of the minor girl, had filmed the entire incident through his mobile phone. Taking notice of the incident, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif had ordered immediate action against the cop. Earlier, the accused SI had illegally detained Yaseen at Sadar police station and broke his arm and brutally tortured him. The police have arrested the accused cop.

LOCALS ROBBED OF CASH, VALUABLES: Locals were deprived of cash and valuables on Saturday. Two bandits snatched Rs 20,000 and a mobile phone from Abdul Qayyum in Bharthanwala village in the limits of the Uggoki police. Two gunmen took away Rs 10,000 and jewellery worth Rs 70,000 from motorcyclist Kashif and his wife in Malkey Kalan village in the limits of the Muradpur police. Three robbers intercepted the van of a beverage company near Sadra Badra village in the limits of Sadder Sialkot police, and took away Rs 82,500 from driver Maqsood Ahmed.

Female drug peddler jailed: Additional District and Sessions Judge Amjad Ali Bajwa Saturday awarded 11-month rigorous imprisonment to a female drug peddler.

According to the prosecution, Sadr police had arrested accused Mumtaz Bibi and recovered narcotics from her possession. The court also imposed fine on her.
