PSB approves NA body suggestions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) executive committee on Friday approved the National Assembly sub-committee recommendations on the appointment of PSB director general.

The executive committee meeting, which was chaired by Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada, however recommended that the candidate must have vast experience of sports management and should preferably have PhD degree from internationally recognised university.

The committee also contemplated on making necessary changes in the Rule 200 of the Pakistan Sports Board’s constitution. It also decided to forward necessary amendments to the Ministry of Law for approval.

The NA sub-committee only last week supported the idea of advertisement to fill in the post of PSB director general. The committee members were of the opinion that the candidate should at least be having the Masters degree in sports.

“Having a PhD degree would be an added qualification for the candidate,” NA committee recommended.It suggested that the candidate’s age bracket should be between 50-62 years. “A candidate well acquainted with sports, sports development and training should be preferred.”

The committee members were also of the opinion that the candidate must be a qualified sports administrator knowing well about the international sports requirements, fielding of contingents in international games and other related expertise in sports management.

Later talking to the media, the minister said that efforts were on to complete formalities regarding the establishment of Sports University. “We are in final stage to complete all the requirements about the Sports University.”

He said that the appointment of PSB DG should be on merit. “Merit should be the only criteria and I would ensure that.”He thanked NA sub-committee for the recommendations. “They have done their job. I am thankful to them for forwarding these recommendations.
