PESHAWAR: The three-day amateur skiing competition concluded in Malam Jabba in the scenic Swat valley on Thursday. The skiing tour was organised by the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) in collaboration with the Thrill Seekers, said a press release.
The organisers said the skiing tour was a unique one for the youth and adventurists in which 26 students, including six female students, from various educational institutes of Peshawar participated.
The students were from different age groups, including grade-4 students from City School and Beacon House.Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports, Tourism, Archaeology, Museums and Youth Affairs Amjad Afridi said the provincial government was taking a number of steps to empower youth and womenfolk. He said various opportunities were being provided to them in every sphere of life to enable them to play their due role in the development of the province.
He said the adventurous ski tour to Malam Jabba was a message to those who believe that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was a backward province with no female empowerment. The adviser said that they should think again because the TCKP and the Thrill Seekers had proved this claim wrong by conducting an adventurous ski tour in Malam Jabba.
The opportunity provided to the youth, especially females would definitely enhance their skills and leadership potentials, he added. The advisor said that skiing was an emerging olympic sport gaining popularity across the country. He said it provided an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure sports to explore their potentials.
The Thrill Seekers is an adventure club established by the students of IMSciences with the aim to promote a platform for the adventure lovers to explore the wilderness and their untapped potential and leadership skills and build their confidence.
