MQM chief Altaf Hussain said in a statement issued by the party’s London Secretariat that Bukhari was actively pursuing many cases of missing activists of his party.
He wondered if a serious inquiry would be conducted into the senior lawyer’s murder or the matter would be forgotten after the formation of a committee or a commission, as was the routine. “Is it a crime to pursue cases of missing persons? Which department should be approached if the cases of missing persons are not to be taken to court?” he asked.
“What would the chief minister, the chiefs of the ISI, MI, IB, IG, DIG, Karachi’s commissioner and the entire Sindh cabinet like to say about the murder?”
The MQM chief asked if the family of the slain lawyer would get justice. He said neither the sacrifices of missing persons nor the blood of the lawyer would go waste.
The party’s coordination committee demanded of the government to take action against the banned outfits.
Addressing a press conference, MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi said a specific group of likeminded people was being targeted.
He said forming committees to solve problems was not the answer and strict action was required against the banned outfits.
He added that criminals belonging to banned organisations were committing crimes with impunity.
The coordination committee termed Bukhari’s killing a conspiracy, and demanded of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the interior minister and the Sindh governor and the chief minister to ensure that the culprits were arrested.
