The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) lawyers at their general meeting on Friday strongly condemned the brutal rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab and 11 other innocent minor girls in Kasur and demanded of the government to arrest all the culprits and hang them publicly.

The KBA office bearers, including president Haider Imam Rizvi and joint secretary Amir Nawaz Warraich, demanded of the government to arrest and punish the SHO concerned in Kasur who had disallowed the victims’ families to register their cases against the kidnapping of their daughters.

The two lawyers said such police officers should be publicly sentenced for their crimes to back the rapists, kidnappers and killers. The KBA representatives also appealed to all madrasas and schools to play an effective role in creating awareness among the children for their protection from criminals and outlaws.

“The police stations should be made duty bound to register the cases of missing children instead of exploiting the issue or victimising the victims’ families instead,” they demanded. The speakers also demanded of the government to set up special courts for the trials of rapists and that the police should provide a separate place at each police station to deal with the parents whose children were kidnapped and raped.

The lawyers also suggested that the media must play a positive role in educating the children about their safety and protection from the sexual abusers. The lawyers demanded of the government to direct the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to air one hour special educational programmes on a daily basis for the children in order to control the crimes against young ones.
