Fraud accused fined Rs1.6b

LAHORE : An accountability court on Saturday imposed Rs 1.6 billion fine on an accused of looting public at large.

The convict, Yaqob Ali, was involved in Double Shah-like scam as he and his gang used to lure people on false promises of doubling their money in purchase of Kuwaiti dinars. In 2006, the NAB had filed a reference against five persons. Three of them are proclaimed offenders while one had already opted for plea-bargain.

Robberies: Robbers and thieves deprived citizens of their valuables including cash and gold ornaments and vehicles worth millions of rupees here on Saturday. Robbers took away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs100,000 from the house of Qasim in Nawankot, Rs75,000 from the shop of Yaseen in Subzazar, valuables worth Rs 25,000 from the house of Ramazan in Sundar, Rs200,000 from Adnan in Nawankot, Rs 30,000 from Raheel in Islampura, Rs28,000 from Asad in Shahdara, Rs20,000 from Fozia in Defence A and Rs15,000 from Mujtaba in Baghbanpura. Two cars were lifted from the areas of Shahdara Town and Faisal Town. Six bikes were stolen from the areas of Sattukatla, Raiwind, Shahdara, Shafiqabad, Mughalpura and Gulshan Ravi.

Two held: Dolphin Squad at Shahdara arrested two criminals and recovered cash and illegal weapons. The arrested were identified as Ghulam Sabir and Shehroz Khan. Police recovered a pistol, currency and three mobile phones from their possession.

celebration: A Christmas celebration ceremony was held at Qurban Police Lines in the honour of Christian Dolphin cops on Saturday. Dolhpin Squad SP Faisal Shahzad congratulated the Christian cops.
