An anti-terrorism court issued on Monday black warrants of two death row prisoners and they will be hanged on March 5.
The central prison authorities had moved an application with the court on February 21, asking it to fix the date of execution of two death row prisoners, Muhamamd Faisal and Muhammad Afzal.
The two men were awarded the capital punishment on July 7, 1999.
Faisal and Afzal, along with another accomplice, Kashif Khan, had killed a man while committing a robbery in Korangi in 1998.
Khan had died during the trial and the ATC had awarded the death punishment to the other two men.
The two convicts had filed petitions with the Sindh High Court challenging the death punishment, but they were dismissed.
Later, they had approached the Supreme Court but their pleas were again turned down. Finally, the two men had sent mercy petitions to President Mamnoon Hussain. However, the president had recently rejected the mercy pleas of six convicts from Sindh including that of Faisal and Afzal.
The authorities have to request the courts to fix the date of execution of the other four convicts, Achar alias Bhai Khan, Abdul Aziz, Bashir Ahmed, and Munawar Ali.
At least 22 people have been executed since lifting the moratorium on death sentence after the December 16 attack at a school in Peshawar that killed 150 people, including 136 students. There are more than 8,000 death row prisoners in the country.
There are 457 inmates on death row across Sindh. Of them, 115 convicts are in the Karachi central prison. They include 11 militants of the Jundullah, four of the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and one belonging to the Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan.
Attaur Rahman, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa alias Umer, Khurram Saifullah alias Anas, Shahzad Mukhtar alias Talha, Syed Adnan Shah alias Tipu, Najeebullah alias Atif, Rao Khalid alias Haris, Shoaib Siddiqui, Yaqoob Saeed Khan, Uzair Ahmed Abdullah alias Kashif and Danish Imam alias Shami of the Jundullah were sentenced to death in 2006 in a case pertaining to an attack on the convoy of a corps commander in 2004.
Attaullah alias Qasim and Mohammad Azam alias Sharif of the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi were awarded capital punishment in two sectarian killing cases in 2004.
