Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah advised people with disabilities to apply in large numbers for the job vacancies recently announced by the provincial government specifically for them.
He said this at a programme held at the CM House to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated annually on December 3, and the Sindhi Culture Day, both observed on Sunday.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of disabled persons on the special invitation of the Sindh CM. He said he had invited job applications from the differently-abled through the national media as he vowed to solve their problems on an urgent basis in Sindh.
The fresh applications have been invited for government job vacancies on the reserved quota for special persons. The Sindh government not only increased the quota from two to five per cent by passing a law in the provincial assembly, but also announced setting up a centralised office for persons with disabilities to help them apply for jobs. The feats were achieved by the disabled people following a protest held last month outside the Sindh Assembly building while the assembly was in session.
Bilawal’s message
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stressed on providing the differently-abled community adequate opportunities and facilities to grow and utilise their full potential for the overall good of the society and a better life for themselves.
In his message for the occasion, the PPP chairman endorsed the UN’s Theme for the day for the year 2017: ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all’. He said that people with certain physical disabilities are never a burden on the society, rather are a true source of inspiration for all human beings.
“They just need what is their due share from the society so as to contribute in the development and progress of the country,” said Bilawal. He appreciated the Sindh government’s increase of job quota for candidates with disabilities and formed a committee to ensure the quota policy is implemented in letter and spirit.
The chairman further pledged that the PPP would increase employment and recruitment quota to five percent in the federal and other three provincial governments after it comes into power following the 2018 general elections. He also emphasised for the differently-abled to be provided with business incentives as well as given opportunities to showcase their performance in sports and other fields.
