Zulfiqar Mirza enjoyed top popularity and huge support from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) second class leadership recently till 2011, but now he has been isolated.
Almost all old comrades and close political and personal associates of Dr Mirza have now left him and preferred to be within the ranks of Sindh ruling party.
Once enjoying the status of king of district Badin, Dr Mirza has now the support of some councillor level party activists.
Two days ago, his two former close associates, who reportedly got huge political and personal benefits and favours from Dr Mirza, criticised him through press conferences. One of them was Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon and the other was Chairman of Sindh National Party Amir Bhanbhro.
Dr Mirza also faced an unexpected criticism from the Peoples Amn Committee Liyari leaders Maulana Abdul Majeed Sarbazi Baloch and others, who declared Dr Mirza responsible for the present worst law and order situation of Lyari.
Sources in the Sindh government told The News that apart from political steps, the Sindh government has appointed once a party worker senior police officer and most loyal to the ruling leadership Khalid Mustafa Korai as SSP Badin to control the activities of Dr Mirza’s associates.
On the other hand, his close associate and former district nazim of Badin MNA Sardar Kamal Chang has left him and joined the ruling party ranks. Once his number two and most trustworthy Dr Nisar Morai is now chairman of Fishermen’s Cooperative Society with the blessings of the ruling party, his another close associate and main figure of politics of district Badin Dr Aziz Memon, former Taluka president of the PPP Badin, MPA Mir Allah Bux Talpur and Nadir Khawaja, local PPP leader and Nawab Leghari, who remained special assistant to CM Sindh, are also among those people who have changed their loyalty and left Dr Mirza.
Dr Mirza is currently enjoying the support of some local level leaders of the PPP including Pairoz Shahani, Khalil Bhurgri, Asghar Gujar and some quarters of the PPP workers and common people.
Chairman Sindh National Party Amir Bhanbhro told The News that in 2011, Dr Mirza came with the slogans of Sindh, that’s why all the pro-Sindh people supported him but suddenly he left the Sindhis, went in isolation and apologised from Asif Zardari to get tickets for his family members.
Bhanbhro added that this time Dr Mirza is criticising his party due to his personal matters and grudge, so this time people of Sindh and his close associates are not with him.
Sources in the PPP are of the view that Mirza’s present feeling of resentment and criticism upon the party leadership is due to his failure to get the ticket of Senate and ministry for his son Hasnain Mirza in the Sindh cabinet.
But independent sources are of the view that including the above mentioned issues Dr Mirza is annoyed over handing the Pangrio Sugur Mills ownership to Onmni group of Anwar Majeed. Despite repeated calls and text messages to Sharjeel Memon, he avoided giving any response.
