KARACHI: Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) will honour the country’s two leading wrestlers Mohammad Inam and rookie Inayatullah with cash prizes on Tuesday (today) at Islamabad for winning gold medals in the World Beach Wrestling Championship in Turkey recently.
A special function will be held at the Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad at 1pm. The federal minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Riaz Pirzada will hand over cheques of Rs500,000 each to the fighters.
The PSB in a statement said on Monday that the credit goes to Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) which groomed and trained the grapplers.
This was the first time that Pakistan claimed gold in the global beach event.
Inam also has to his credit several international medals, including gold in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. It was this achievement which brought Inam to the limelight. Pakistan’s government gave him Rs5 million for winning gold in Delhi.
Inayat, on the other hand, is an emerging grappler with great potential. Inayat has already been given Rs1 million by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for winning gold in Turkey.
