NAWABSHAH: The patients at Peoples Medical University Hospital are facing severe difficulties due to shortage of X-ray films in the hospital. The in-charge doctor of Radiology Department told The News that the stock of films finished after the retirement of the Medical Superintendent. He said daily 1,000 films are used for accident victims, patients of OPD and other departments.

Talking to The News, a patient Waqas Ahmed said that he was injured in a motorcycle accident but the doctor failed to detect fracture due to  absence of X-ray films. Other patients said that private X-ray labs are charging Rs450 per film per X-ray. They said they cannot afford the getting X-ray done privately when the doctors advise multiple X-rays.

The Peoples Medical University Hospital consists of 900 beds with an annual budget of Rs.one billion. Patients claim that neither the doctors are punctual, nor medicines are available, while the sanitation conditions are also not praiseworthy. Hundreds of patients from Naushehro Feroze, Khairpur, Sanghar, Matiari and other districts, including accident victims, visit this hospital daily and face severe problems when they are directed to visit private X-ray labs.
