Pakistan will raise the issue of US President’s Donald Trump’s allegations about Pakistan ignoring its sacrifices in the war against terrorism and its efforts for peace in Afghanistan at the United Nations.

The US president while dilating upon his administration’s strategy regarding Pakistan and Afghanistan early this week used levelled serious allegations against Pakistan.

The diplomatic sources at the Foreign Office told The News Friday evening that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi would lead Pakistan’s delegation in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) annual summit and in all probabilities he would leave for the UN headquarters in third week of next month.

The Pakistan’s delegation would be finalised after Eidul Azha holidays and the prime minister will agitate the assertions of the US president in his statement at the UNGA.

Prime Minister Abbasi will highlight Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terror and its resolve to eliminate the menace. He will remind the world about Pakistan’s desire for enduring peace in Afghanistan as Pakistan had been helping the war-torn country throughout.

Leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has expressed desire that Prime Minister Abbasi should raise the issue of Kashmir and throw light on the grave human rights violations by the Indian occupying forces in the held Kashmir. It is understood that Prime Minister Abbasi will forcefully raise his voice for the oppressed people of IHK by recalling the UN commitment about seven decades ago for their right to self determination.

The address of the prime minister will be choreographed by senior officials of the Foreign Office under the supervision of Foreign Secretary Ms Tehmina Janjau. She will also become part of the premier’s delegation later, the sources added.

The sources pointed out that Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif would also be part of Pakistan’s delegation. He will chair a number of meetings on the margins of the United Nations session.

A meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) will also be held on the sidelines of the UNGA. Yet another important Contact Group on Kashmir constituted by the OIC will have its meeting on the brinks of the UNGA next month and it will be chaired by the Turkish foreign minister.

The Secretary General of the OIC, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Niger will also attend the group’s meeting since both are its members. The OIC has extended invitation to the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader on the both side of Kashmir to attend the meeting of the Contact Group on Kashmir since they are true representatives of the IHK people. Indians had been creating hurdles in the way of APHC leaders in proceeding to New York. They didn’t let them travel to the UN headquarters on two previous occasions. The sources hinted that Prime Minister Abbasi would also have several meetings with different world leaders during his presence at the UN HQ.
