Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal has announced allocation of Rs190 million to Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) for resuming work on the 3rd phase of Khanpur Dam which remains suspended for the last two years.
The announcement of allocation of funds to RCB by the minister was made during his meeting with MNA, Malik Abrar Ahmed, who is also member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, who called on him along with members of the RCB.
During the meeting Malik Abrar apprised the minister that the 3rd phase of Khanpur Dam remains incomplete for the last two years only because of non-availability of required funds and the concerned bodies are considering abandoning work on it. He said that water problem already persist in certain parts of Rawalpindi and if work is not completed on the 3rd phase then the situation is likely to aggravate. He demanded off the government to provide grant in this connection so that work on it could be completed at the shortest possible time.
