ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday said that “political orphans approached the Supreme Court not for accountability but for gaining power”.

Talking to the media outside Supreme Court,  Talal Chaudhry MNA said that that by demanding elected premier’s resignation the opposition parties have displayed no confidence in the apex court which is seized with the matter. He declared that the JIT cobbled up defective evidence and documents and submitted before the SC.

He said that the JIT could not level even a single allegation of corruption, kickbacks or commission on the prime minister in award of contracts for development projects.

He alleged that the JIT was formed to look into violation of law, but it itself committed illegality by hiring a company owned by the close relative of a member. Terming the PML-N rivals ‘political orphans’, he said they line up outside the Supreme Court drooling with lust for power, not justice. He said that the prime minister will fight back till last moment

He ridiculed Bilawal’s demand of resignation of Nawaz Sharif and reminded him of corruption charges faced by his father Asif Ali Zardari.

Talal termed the Panama Papers case a conspiracy against the PML-N government which has initiated a number of development projects across the country to strengthen national economy. He charged, “It is a conspiracy that has links abroad, and here in Pakistan Imran and Bilawal are their puppets. Conspirators want to sabotage unprecedented development taking place in the country in the form of CPEC and energy projects.”

Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the PTI wanted to enter the power corridors through backdoor channel but their Machiavellian politics is bound to fail. “If the PTI wants to come into power, it will have to come via elections.”

He said that the PTI got only around 100 votes in a recent bye-election held for a National Assembly seat, which had depicted the graph of its popularity among public. He predicted another landslide victory for the PML-N and a humiliating defeat for the PTI in the next elections.

Daniyal Aziz said that some parties absolutely with no connection in the case have also joined the wishful bandwagon to power and have started attending court proceedings. He jocularly said that Ch Shujaat Hussain did not come to the court on Tuesday as perhaps someone had told him that name of Moonis Elahi was on top of the list of persons having offshore companies. He further said that after the bail of Dr Asim Hussain who had allegedly plundered Rs230 billion, Bilawal was somehow using PTI’s language.

He said Jamat-e-Islami has filed a review petition ignoring the names of 450 people, accused of having offshore companies, thus targeting only Sharif family. He said that the PTI has deviated from its earlier stance thrice. He demanded that Volume X of the JIT report, as well as video recording of its proceeding should also be made public.

He said people wanted end of loadshedding and end of price hike while the PTI was focusing only on alleged forgery pinpointed in JIT report. He said that the legal firm hired by the JIT has clearly mentioned in the documents that the contents could not be produced before any court of law.

Daniyal said the JIT report was apparently biased. Letters were written to a number of countries ostensibly for investigation; however the name of Qatari prince was conveniently forgotten, he jibed.

NNI adds: Talking to media outside Supreme Court, Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan wants to topple the democracy. He said, “PTI had made preparations to celebrate on Monday but the nation would celebrate victory of democracy and supremacy of the Constitution.”

He also bashed Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed and said, “He polished Nawaz Sharif’s shoes for 25 years and should kill himself by drowning in Nullah Lai.” Abid also asked how the AML chief made properties worth millions of rupees.

The state minister termed PTI Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi as “Triple Shah,” and said he should tell the nation how many billions he has received as offerings. He said, “Four generations of Sharif family have been subjected to accountability.’ He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would decide the Panama Papers case as per law and the Constitution.
