Rule of law

It is a painful reality that ours is such a society where nobody – not even government or any other organisation – has shown a strong commitment towards upholding laws, sticking within fair legal frameworks or enforcing them in an impartial manner. If they had shown even an iota of commitment towards rule of law in this country, there would have been a sense of security prevailing in the country.
However, abiding by the law requires effective mechanisms. Our public-sector enterprises and the people working there should comply with all relevant laws. They should also strive to utilise their powers for the full benefit of their communities and other stakeholders by remaining within the legal confines. The laws also furnish necessary means through which they can be held accountable for any misdeeds – but who cares in a country where there is no law at all?
