The city lawyers would observe a mourning day on Friday (today) against the passage of 21st constitutional amendment.
According to spokesman for the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), the mourning day was being observed on the call given by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).
He said all the members of the KBA and Malir Bar Association (MBA) would register their protest against the passage of the 21st Amendment, adding the lawyers would also wear black bands on their arms in order to express their protest.
“The courts however would function as a routine and no one would boycott the courts.”
'Extortionist' remanded
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) remanded an alleged extortionist to the police on physical remand till February 10.
According to complainant in the case, Muhammad Imran, accused (Shahid) had demanded a huge amount of money as extortion from him threatening him to face the dire consequences otherwise.
Imran lodged a case against the accused at the SITE police station and the police arrested Shahid on January 27, while co-accused Nadim Ahmed was absconding. The investigation officer had requested the court to grant physical remand against Shahid so the whereabouts of his absconding companion could be known.
