PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) on Friday lodged the first information report (FIR) against a Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) for attacking gridstations.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA Fazal Elahi along with other elected members and villagers forced entry into gridstations in Hazar Khwani and other areas after Pesco suspended power supply for long.

The MPA and his men were protesting against prolonged power breakdowns. The protesters also chanted slogans against the Pesco for increasing power outages ahead of Ramazan. They added that electricity supply to many areas remained suspended for hours in the name of repair work.

Pesco spokesperson Shaukat Afzal told reporters that the FIR was registered against MPA Fazal Elahi at the Agha Mirjani Shah (Yakatoot)  and Bhanamari police stations for attacking three gridstations.

He added the protestors attacked 132 KV Hazar Khwani, 132 KV Industrial Estate and 132 KV Tajabad gridstations. However, some protestors said that the staff of the Pesco was involved in power theft scale but they blamed the consumers. “Power theft is impossible without the connivance of Pesco employees. Their corruption is evident even from the lifestyle of a lineman let alone senior officers,” a protester said.
