‘Pak handball team can qualify for Youth Olympics’
KARACHI: A senior official of Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF) said on Wednesday that Pakistan had a chance to qualify for the beach event of the Youth Olympics which would be held in Argentina in October 2018.
“We are to feature in the World Youth Beach Championship to be held in Mauritius from July 11-16,” PHF president Mohammad Shafiq told ‘The News’. “The top two teams of Asia will qualify for the Youth Olympics and we definitely have a chance,” he said.
Players below 17 can participate in the Youth World Beach Handball Championship.
Shafiq said that Pakistan’s camp had been in operation in Islamabad since January with 14 players and two coaches.
He said the best preparation was being made for the tough assignment.
To a question, he said that it was not possible to hold the camp in Karachi because there was need to clean the site as there was no proper setup in the port city.
