Corps Commander Lt-General Shahid Baig Mirza says LEAs will continue to perform their duties

Karachi Corps Commander Lt-General Shahid Baig Mirza expressed his resolve on Monday to continue the targeted operation in Karachi for the maintenance of peace.

He said that the city’s condition had been changed and the work would continue for a lasting peace.

According to the ISPR, the corps commander, during a meeting with the president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) in Karachi, said that the law enforcement agencies would continue to perform their duties.

The FPCCI president, Zubair Tufail, said peace had been maintained in Karachi with the efforts of the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies, and economic activities had increased as a result.

He held out the assurance that the traders were with the law enforcement agencies for the maintenance of peace in the city.

The targeted operation, which was launched in Karachi on September 5, 2013, after a special meeting of the cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has largely restored law and order to the city, with target killings, kidnappings for ransom, incidents of extortion and land grabbing reported to have decreased by up to 80 percent.
