CDA to install 40,000 led streetlights

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is carrying out work on the project of replacement of conventional streetlights with state-of-the-art LED lights in the federal capital and up till now 2,100 streetlights on the major avenues of the city have been replaced with LED lights having latest technology.

The Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman, CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz on Sunday inspected work on the project of installation of LED lights on Constitution Avenue, Nazim-ud-Din Road, Agha Khan Road, Faisal Avenue, Markaz F-6, Kohsar Road and other major roads and avenues of the city.

Sheikh Anser Aziz said that Islamabad is known, all around the world, for its natural beauty, green character and cleanliness, however, in next three months 40,000 LED lights would be installed and would be made operational to make the federal capital, ‘city of lights’.

He said that installation of modern streetlights would not only help save sufficient energy but would also considerably reduce expenditure incurred on their repair and maintenance.

Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz said that up till now two million conventional streetlights have been shifted to LED lights, which help save approximately Rs10.00 million in different heads. He said once the all 40,000 conventional streetlights would be shifted on LED technology billion of rupees would be saved in addition to saving of sufficient electrical energy.

On this occasion Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman CDA was briefed that work on first phase of the project is being carried out on fast pace. He was informed that up till now 225 LED lights on Constitution Avenue, 60 on Khayaban-e-Soharwardy, 337 on Murree Road from Faizabad to Rawal Chowk including Club Road, 29 in Sector G-5, 126 in Markaz F-7, 41 on Kohsar Road, 251 on Faisal Avenue, 56 on Sector F-7, 56 on Khayaban-e-Iqbal, 100 in Markaz F-6, 53 on Agha Khan Road while 161 LED lights have been installed at Nazim-ud-Din Road. He said that LED lights not only provide more light but are more durable as compared to the conventional street lights. He was apprised that LED lights consumes very nominal electric volts and their installation will help save million of rupees in terms of electricity bills.

Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz said that during the next three months all street, roads and sectors of the city would lighten by installing LED lights.
