FGEI holds prize distribution

To encourage the spirit of healthy competition and to promote co-curricular activities among students, Directorate of Federal Government Educational Institutions (FGEI) Cantonment and Garrison (C/G), annually organises All Pakistan Sports and Co-curricular activities.
In keeping with this tradition, competitions were held among the colleges of FGEI Directorate at regional and all Pakistan level. In this regard an All-Pakistan Final Prize Distribution Ceremony was held here on Thursday, under the auspices of FGEI Directorate (C/G), at FG Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road Rawalpindi.
Professor Mrs. Farhat Maqbool, former principal of FG Degree College for Women, Abid Majeed Road, Rawalpindi, was the chief guest on this occasion. GSO-1 Rawalpindi Region, Lt. Col Saadat ullah also attended the ceremony.
The ceremony started with recitation of the Holy Quran by Syeda Dushka Zehra and ‘Naat’ by Rabbia Shah, both of whom are all-Pakistan 1st prize winners. This was followed by the welcome address by GSO-1, Lt. Col. Saadat ullah, who paid tribute to Prof. Farhat Maqbool for her valuable services as an exceptional educationist and administrator. He also shared the history of the FGEI Directorate which now controls 355 institutions all over Pakistan. In his address he placed special emphasis on the focus of the FGEI Directorate on developing the all-round personality of students and therefore the need to hold co-curricular activities.
The welcome address was followed by an English speech by Mariam Niaz Qureshi and Urdu speech by Sidra Anjum, both of whom stood first in the all-Pakistan competitions. The all-Pakistan winner in the ‘milli naghma’ category, Syeda Arfa Shah presented a national song in her melodious voice. These were followed by the formal distribution of prizes and certificates among the various winners from the All-Pakistan competitions. The winners were as follows:
FG Postgraduate College for Women, Wah Cantonment: Syeda Dushka Zehra (1st in Qirat), Rabbia Shah (1st in Naat), Zainab Aman (3rd in English declamation), Fareesa Kanwal (2nd in Urdu declamation), Syeda Arfa Shah (1st in ‘Milli Naghma’). In science projects the Wah Cantonment College teams won 2nd prize in Chemistry and 1st prize in Biology.
FG Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road, Rwp: Hadia Khalil (3rd in Naat), Sajar Ali and group (3rd in ‘Milli Naghma’). The college teams also won 2nd prize in Physics and 1st prize in Chemistry projects. FG Degree College for Women, Abid Majeed Road, Rwp: Hafza Mudassar (2nd in ‘Qirat’), Mariam Niaz Qureshi and Sidra Anjum (1st in English and Urdu declamations respectively) and 3rd prize in Biology project.
FG Degree College for Women, Peshawar Cantonment: Hafiza Bushra Bibi (3rd in Qirat), Maria Ishtiaq (2nd in English declamation), and also 1st prize in Biology project. FG Degree College for Women, Multan Cantonment: Rukhsana Liaqat (2nd in ‘Naat’) FG Degree College Mangla Cantonment: Rimshah Arif (2nd in ‘Milli Naghma’). FG Degree College, Lahore Cantonment: 1st prize in Chemistry and Physics projects. FG Degree College, Kharian Cantonment: 3rd prize in Physics and 2nd in Biology projects. FG Inter College for Women, Bahawalpur Cantonment: Bazm-e-Zahra (3rd in Urdu declamation).
On the basis of overall prizes, the trophy for Over-all Best College went to FG Postgraduate College for Women, Wah Cantonment. At the end of the distribution of prizes and certificates, the college insignia was presented to the Chief Guest Prof Farhat Maqbool followed by her speech. She congratulated the prize-winning students as well as their parents and teachers for their dedicated efforts and achievements. She extolled the role of teachers in shaping the character of students and advised the students to always follow the guidance of their teachers, especially the guidance of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), the best teacher for all times to come. She also encouraged the students to dedicate themselves to the service of their country and humanity in general and to channelize their infinite potential into bringing change and improvement wherever they may go.
