LAHORE

Majority of seasonal vegetables were not sold in weekly makeshift markets due to wrong rates fixation issue as the vendors who even brought these items plainly refused to sell.

They said the purchase price of these vegetables were much higher than the officially fixed rates on price list as the district coordination officer representative, market committee and other officials did not issue accurate rate list in order to show decline in the rates of perishables.

This is an old issue as every week few vegetables were missing in makeshift markets on wrong rates fixation matter. However, this week as majority of vegetable rates were wrongly fixed in the price list as compared to the purchase price of vendors, so they refused to sell, said an official of town management who was deputed at one of the bazaars. He said the administrations of the bazaars always tried their level best to ensure the availability of fruits and vegetables but selling the items on lower than the purchase price was injustice with the vendors too. He alleged that the government officials appointed at Badami Bagh wholesale fruit and vegetable markets were not performing their duties properly so the issue remained unresolved.
