Education only way to progress: governor

Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana has said that future of Pakistan is safe and secure as its youth is active and brave, adding that Pakistani youth could make the country as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

He said this at the annual convocation of FC College University here on Saturday. Rector Dr James A Tebbe, faculty members and a large number of students and their parents were also present. 

The governor said, "We can join the ranks of developed countries only by promoting education." He said the incumbent government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, had, therefore, prioritised education. He said in Punjab and at the federal level allocations for education had witnessed substantial increase over the years. He said talented youth was being equipped with laptops while there were numerous scholarship opportunities for the students.

Rafique Rajwana conferred degrees on the graduates and awarded medals to the high achievers.

Conference: A one-day conference on gravitation and cosmology was held at Punjab University (PU) here on Saturday. 

The conference organised by the PU Department of Mathematics was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Faculty of Science  Prof Dr Shahid Kamal, renowned scientist Prof Dr Asghar Qadir, Department of Mathematics Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Sharif, senior faculty members and a large number of students. 

Dr Mujahid Kamran lauded the research activities being carried out at Department of Mathematics and said their research work was being acknowledged at the international level. 

Prof Dr Shahid Kamal said the basic work of universities was to create new knowledge and organise such a high-quality conferences and seminars along with teaching students. He said that under the leadership of PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, research culture had been promoted on campus.

Dr Muhammad Sharif highlighted importance of gravitation and cosmology in detail. Paying tribute to renowned scientist Prof Dr Asghar Qadir, he said Qadir was awarded for his book on Special Relativity by National Book Council besides earning many other awards. He said Dr Qadir had produced 14 PhDs and 32 M Phil/MS students and the number of his research papers in the field of physics and mathematics was now over 150 in reputed journals. He said the conference was organised on his 70th birthday in order to pay a tribute to him. 

convocation: The first convocation of Allied School of Health Sciences Punjab, Punjab Institute of Cardiology, would be held on November 30 in the auditorium of PIC, Lahore.

According to a handout issued here on Saturday, certificates would be awarded to the passed students of BSc (Hons) CPT/MIT session 2011-15. 

University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Aslam would be the chief guest on this occasion.
