Addressing an event held to commemorate China’s 67th national day, University of Karachi Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser said China’s current leadership was committed to principles of national reconciliation, peace and harmony and sustainable growth, on Tuesday.

The event was organised at the auditorium of the Institute of Business Administration, by Confucius Institute KU.

Commenting on Pakistan’s ties with China, the vice chancellor proudly acknowledged that Pakistan was the first country that recognised the People’s Republic of China following Mao Tse-tung’s revolution. “Both the countries have since enjoyed strong friendly ties.”

“The China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the best example of the exemplary relations the two countries enjoy; and the relation will get stronger,” he added.

The VC added that inter-cultural exchanges would open new gateways for strong academic ties between the brotherly nations.

He further observed that the Chinese were a lucky nation to have had a leader like Mao who made the country one of the fastest emerging economies of the world.

Lauding China’s efforts for economic sustenance, Prof Qaiser stated that it was one of the few countries which managed to maintain its economical growth during the period of global recession.

China achieved tremendous development in almost every sector and proved its mantle as an emerging economic giant.

Speaking of the Chinese language programme being taught at the Confucius Institute at KU, Prof Qaiser said promotion of Chinese language in light of the country’s development in every sector was Pakistan’s need of the hour. “The institute’s main aim is to enlighten Pakistani students understanding of the Chinese language and culture.”

Confucius Institute KU Director Moin Siddiqui in his address appreciated Prof Qaiser’s efforts in setting-up the Chinese Cultural Centre at the Confucius Institute. Confucius Institute’s Director Li Yong also thanked KU’s management for establishing making the institute.
