ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid has said that Karachi operation would continue without any discrimination.
Speaking in a Radio Pakistan’s programme Nuqta e Nazar he said there should be distinction between crimes and politics.
The minister said the country was facing serious challenges and operation in Karachi is aimed at tackling these challenges. He said efforts to improve law and order and eliminate terrorists and hardcore criminals are aimed at giving a peaceful and secure environment to people of Karachi.
The operation is not directed against any individual or political party, he added.
To a question he said operation against terrorists was launched after taking all political parties on board.
To another question he said the National Action Plan was formulated by political leaders and action against financing terrorist activities was part of the plan. He said investigation against those arrested on charges of corruption are underway and their cases would be tried as per law.
Defense analyst Air Marshal (R) Shahid Latif said that operation against terrorists’, extortionists, kidnappers and land grabbers was going fairly well in Karachi. There are certain reservations by political parties but operation is neither biased nor directed against any particular faction or political party, he added.
“The prime minister has reiterated the resolve to eradicate terrorism and restoration of peace in Karachi. Indian government has left no stone unturned to isolate Pakistan and prove it a fragile and failed state. However the incumbent government has responded Indian rhetoric with equal vigilance”, he stated.
Now international community has started recognising Pakistan’s sacrifices in war against terrorism, he further said.
Nevertheless Pakistan must go to UN and take major powers into confidence about our efforts and sacrifices for global cause. We must be aware of the fact that economic prosperity and internal stability of the states go hand in glove with each other and peace in Karachi is a first step towards economic developments, he said.
Chairman Pakistan Trade Development Authority SM Muneer said we must appreciate the efforts of the government, COAS and the Rangers for restoring peace in Kaarachi. The peace situation in Karachi is getting better and better after successful operation against militants. Business activities in Karachi gained momentum once again, he added.
IGP Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali said fruitful results of ongoing Karachi operation against militants were coming to the fore. There were four main crimes including target killing, terrorism, kidnapping and extortion. The people of Karachi were living in fear and business community was also disturbed. Now the condition in Karachi is under control to a great extent and business community has been carrying out their activities with full devotion.
Former IGP Sindh Afzal Ali Shigri said that Karachi operation has been progressing successfully without any discrimination. Former IG Sindh Shoaib Suddle said that Karachi operation was moving towards a logical end. No one can eradicate the non-state actors overnight but things are moving in right direction at least, he added.
