PESHAWAR: Like other parts of the country, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Monday staged protest demonstrations across the province to condemn the US attacks on Iranian cities. The protest demonstrations were held on the call of JI’s Central Chief Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.

A huge number of people participated in the protest rallies in the provincial metropolis, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Mohmand and other districts. In Peshawar, addressing the rally, JI KP (Central) President Abdul Wasi condemned the attacks.

He said that US aggression was a dangerous plot to push the region into a third world war.The JI leader termed the US attack as a matter of shame for the Pakistani rulers who had just days earlier recommended American Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize for his supposed role in promoting regional peace.

“The very next day, the US launched brutal attacks on Iran on the pretext of targeting nuclear sites,” Abdul Wasi said.He said that the US was violating both international and domestic laws by bypassing its own parliament for carrying out the strikes.

“These attacks were not only illegal but were also clear evidence of US backing for Israeli aggression in the region,” he stated. The protest rally was held at Hashtnagri Chowk, which was also addressed by the party’s District head Bahrullah Khan, Milli Yakjehti Council Vice President Allama Abid Shakireen, and former provincial minister Hafiz Hashmat Khan.

The speakers condemned the US and Israeli roles in escalating violence and urged the international community to intervene before the entire region was engulfed in a war.The speakers criticized double standards of the West on human rights.

“When Iran retaliated against Israel in self-defense, suddenly US and Israel talked of humanity and began crying over damage to hospitals. Yet for the last two years, Israel has mercilessly bombed Gaza’s hospitals, schools, even tent schools and food distribution centers,” Bahrullah Khan said. The speakers warned that unchecked US and Israeli aggression would have catastrophic consequences for the entire region. They said if this dangerous adventurism was not stopped now, no nation would remain safe from the fallout of a full-scale war.
