A sessions court has granted post-arrest bail to Kamran Asghar Qureshi, the father of Mustafa Amir murder case suspect Armaghan, in an illegal arms case.

Additional Sessions Judge (South) Muhammad Suleman Buriro heard an application filed by the suspect seeking post-arrest bail. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge granted bail to Kamran, subject to the submission of a surety of Rs100,000.

Defence lawyer Khurram Abbas Awan argued that the suspect was innocent and had been falsely implicated in this case with the alleged recovery of an unlicensed pistol foisted upon him. He said that the FIR appeared to be based on false implication, adding that the benefit of the doubt always went in favour of an accused even at the bail stage.

On the other hand, the state prosecutor vehemently opposed the suspect's bail plea. In his written order, the judge noted that the suspect was arrested in the present case on March 20, 2025, after an unlicensed pistol, bullets and drugs were allegedly recovered from him.

"Though, the offence of recovery of unlicensed weapon is punishable up to 14 years attracted with prohibitory clause of section 497 CrPC, but in the instant case all the witnesses are police officials," he said. "There is no chance of tempering of prosecution case evidence," he added.

The judge said that the suspect was in judicial custody since the date of his arrest and that he was no more required for further investigation. "Moreover, trial is yet to be initiated and prosecution has to prove offence against accused which will take time to be completed. Therefore, in view of the above facts and circumstances, the applicant/accused is entitled for grant of bail," ruled the judge.

Kamran faces three separate cases pertaining to the possession of illegal arms and narcotics. According to his lawyer, while he has secured bail in one of the cases, he has yet to obtain bail in the drug-related case and another illegal weapons case, in which he is a co-accused alongside his son, Armaghan.
