ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) will holds its 242nd meeting here on Tuesday (today) to take up various important issues including the Child Marriage Restraint Bill, 2025 recently passed by two houses of Parliament.

The CII Chairman, Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi, will chair the meeting which will also give its opinion on the Child Marriage Restraint Bill, 2025 the passage of which drew strong criticism from the religious circles particularly from Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had also referred the Child Marriage Restraint Bill to the Council of Islamic Ideology in March, this year. The same proposed legislation will also come under review of the CII meeting.

The CII meeting will discuss a recent decision of the Lahore High Court regarding Khula demanded by woman. In its last month’s decision, the Lahore High Court ruled that a woman cannot be deprived of her right to deferred dower merely on the basis of demanding khula.
