PBC’s member quits JCP over judicial appointments
It’s been learnt that after Akhtar Hussain resigned, PBC is likely to hold important meeting on February 26
ISLAMABAD: Akhtar Hussain Advocate, a representative of Pakistan Bar Council in the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), Monday tendered his resignation.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chairman Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) Justice Yahya Afridi, Akhtar Hussain wrote that he could not continue as a member of the JCP in view of the controversies relating to the judicial appointments.
He said the PBC unanimously nominated him thrice as a member Judicial Commission of Pakistan under Article-175(A)(2)(vi) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 and he continued to discharge his responsibilities to the best of his abilities.
“However, on present controversies with regard to the judicial appointments, I am unable to continue and, hereby, resign as being a member of the J.C.P. and sending a copy of this resignation to the Pakistan Bar Council for making new nomination as provided under the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973,” Akhtar wrote.
He paid regards to all the members of the JCP and assured the chairman and all the members that he will continue to make all efforts for development and independence of judicial and democratic institutions.
Meanwhile, it’s been learnt that after Akhtar Hussain resigned, the Pakistan Bar Council is likely to hold an important meeting on February 26 to nominate its another representative as a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
