Gujranwala win Khelta Punjab Games Inter-Division cricket title
LAHORE: Gujranwala cricket team defeated Multan division by 9 runs to win Khelta Punjab Games Inter-Division cricket title at the NPSC Cycling Velodrome on the third day of the games on Saturday.
Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar was the chief guest on this occasion.
Director General Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry, Director Admin Dr M Kaleem, Director Sports Rana Nadeem Anjum, Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed, Ataur Rehman and other officials were also present on this occasion.
Afzaal Chaudhry also distributed prizes at the final competitions of Khelta Punjab Games table tennis and badminton events.
Talking to media, Afzaal Chaudhry said that the participating athletes of Inter-Division phase of games have emerged from grassroots level. “The toppers from this stage will have opportunity to represent the country at international level.
Afzaal Chaudhry further said that best facilities including food and residences are being provided to all participating athletes and team officials of Inter-Division phase of Khellta Punjab Games.
In Khelta Punjab Games Inter-Division cricket event, Gujranwala scored 108 runs in six overs for the loss of three wickets. Salman hammered a knock of 64 runs and later was adjudged man of the match. He smashed 10 sixes in his whirlwind knock.
In reply, Multan division cricket team managed to score 99 runs for the loss of four wickets. The winning team was awarded a cheque of Rs 3 lakh while the runner up team got a cheque of Rs 2 lakh.
