PHC extends protective bail of PTI leader
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday extended the protective bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aliya Hamza until January 14 and sought a report from the federal government and other relevant authorities on a number of cases filed against her.
A division bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Wiqar Ahmad heard the petition seeking details of the cases registered against her.Aliya Hamza’s counsel, Advocate Alam Khan, informed the court that his client was appearing in the cases she was aware of and had obtained relief in several instances.
During the hearing, Aliya Hamza told the court that several cases had been filed against her in Punjab and Balochistan. She said that she regularly appeared in every anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Punjab and had spent 15 months in prison.
She expressed concern over cases filed against her without her knowledge and requested the court to order the relevant authorities to provide her the details of cases registered against her.Justice Syed Arshad Ali remarked, “We cannot seek details from other provinces. However, we will direct the federal government to provide the information. For details from other provinces, you will need to approach the respective courts.”
The court extended Aliya Hamza’s protective bail until January 14, directing authorities not to arrest her in any case.The bench also ordered the federal government to submit a report regarding the cases against her.
