Piles of waste
Karachi, with a population of over 20 million, currently generates around 13,000 tons of waste per day. Unfortunately, the existing waste management infrastructure is inadequate to handle this volume. It leaves thousands of tons of garbage on our roads and creates a breeding ground for diseases, especially during the monsoon season when stagnant waste can lead to the spread of waterborne diseases.
Lack of public knowledge about waste disposal and segregation exacerbates the lack of infrastructure. It is critical for the local government to invest in advanced waste management technologies, such as waste-to-energy plants and efficient recycling facilities. A clean, healthy Karachi is not just a necessity but a right of all its residents.
