PHF chiefs leave for FIH meeting
KARACHI: The Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) chiefs will leave on Thursday (today) for a meeting at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on June 3 to discuss issues related to the revival of international hockey in Pakistan and the Pakistan Hockey League (PHL).
President Brig (Rtd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and secretary Shahbaz Ahmed will also visit Scotland and Ireland to meet heads of their hockey federations and discuss the possibilities of hockey test series.
The PHF wants to organise PHL in a befitting manner in September and October with the help of FIH. In November last year, the FIH president Leandro Negre and CEO Kelly Fairweather visited Pakistan and assured PHF of their full support for the revival of the sport in the country. PHF chief and secretary will meet top officials of the FIH and seek their help for the revival of hockey in Pakistan.
Shahbaz said before leaving the country that PHF would go all out to get the nod of FIH and heads of federations of Scotland and Ireland for revival of international hockey in Pakistan. “We will invite Scotland and Ireland teams to visit Pakistan,” he said. “We will try our best to secure maximum benefits for Pakistan hockey through this visit,” he added.
