Appointment of COMSATS rector demanded
ABBOTTABAD: The Academic Staff Association of COMSATS University Islamabad (ASA-CUI) has expressed concerns over the delay in the appointment process of rector and emphasised the need for a transparent and efficient selection.
The meeting, presided over by Dr. Muhammad Jadoon Khan, highlighted the adverse effects of the delay on the university’s functioning. The association expressed confidence in the elected members of the university senate to ensure a constructive and positive role in the appointment process.
The ASA-CUI stressed the need to resolve long-pending issues, including the end of the ad-hoc setup, selection board for all cadres, pay scale revision, and implementation of the basic pay scale (BPS). The association urged necessary actions to minimize the decline in academic quality and brain drain.
In a related development, the COMSATS University Senate recommended three names for the position of rector, ranked by merit: Dr. Shahid Khattak, Dr. Shahid Munir, and Dr. Asghar Zaidi. The names will be forwarded to the president of Pakistan for final selection.
