FAISALABAD: The Civil Defence Department cancelled staff leave for Ashura as Civil Defence deployed 40 walk-through gates for security along Imambargahs and the main procession route.
Civil Defence officer Rana Muhammad Abbas said that as many as 400 security personnel from Civil Defence will be on duty. Furthermore, staff and volunteers have been equipped with 300 metal detectors.
Technical sweeping of the route will be conducted on the day of Ashura, with a bomb disposal team and vehicle accompanying the procession until its conclusion. Specifically, 80 Civil Defence volunteers will be assigned to the procession emerging from Jhal Khanuana.
Two workers suffocate in sewer: Two Christian workers, including a municipal committee employee, died of suffocation while cleaning a sewer at a restaurant on Chiniot Road in Chak Jhumra.
Rescue 1122 official said that Shakeel, a municipal committee employee, entered the sewer to clean it and was overcome by toxic gases, causing him to collapse inside. Sohail Masih, another worker, also entered the sewer to assist Shakeel and lost consciousness due to the gases. Rescue 1122 teams carried out a rescue operation, retrieving both workers from the sewer who had already died from suffocation.
