The Anti-Violent Crime Cell of police on Sunday claimed to have arrested five suspects involved in the abduction of schoolchildren in Karachi.
The arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by AVCC chief Zafar Siddiq Changa at his office where he informed the media that five suspects involved in kidnapping two children for ransom in the Samanabad area of Karachi had been arrested five days after the incident.
The children, Abdullah and Ibrahim, were kidnapped while they were going to school, the officer said, adding that when the incident was reported by the media, the suspects became afraid and dropped the children near Nagan Chowrangi a few hours after kidnapping.
The AVCC SSP said the kidnapping was planned by a man, Wajahat, who was a close relative of the children who abducted them out of greed believing that the children’s family was wealthy.
According to the AVCC SSP, Wajahat planned the abduction with his friends. Both students were abducted in a cinematic manner after being taken off from the school van. The officer said that besides Wajahat, Hammad, Hamdan, Osama and Sultan were also involved in the kidnapping, and the house where the children were kept belonged to Osama.
