Former minister Bilal joins selection committee as analyst

LAHORE: Bilal Afzal, a former minister in the caretaker cabinet of Punjab, has joined the national cricket team’s selection committee. Afzal will serve as the committee’s data analyst. Afzal was a minister in the Punjab caretaker cabinet that was dissolved last month. He has a keen interest in cricket and has been involved in the sport at the grassroots level.

According to sources at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Afzal’s appointment was made due to his expertise in data analysis. He will be responsible for providing the committee with data-driven insights into player performance.The other members of the committee are former Test cricketers Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Wahab Riaz, the captain and the coach.

Renowned data analyst Hasan Cheema will also be a part of the selection committee as an ex-officio member. Cheema has previously worked with the PCB in a similar role.The committee is responsible for selecting the national team for all international formats.

Afzal served as the minister for Environment Protection, Forrest, Wildlife and Fisheries, and Planning and Development during the tenure of Punjab caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi, who is now PCB chairman and interior minister.
