NDM resumes protest against ‘rigging’ in Waziristan
MIRANSHAH: The workers and supporters of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) and people from various tribes on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the alleged rigging in the recent general elections.
Relaunching the protest movement against rigging, the NDM workers and supporters along with people hailing from Darpakhel and other tribes gathered outside the Miranshah Press Club and chanted slogans against the administration.
The protestors’ leaders said that they would not accept stealing the people’s mandate on NA-40, PK-103 and PK-104 and urged the district administration and Election Commission of Pakistan to declare the NDM candidates winners in these constituencies.
They also said that those involved in the firing on the NDM chief Mohsin Dawar must be brought to the court of law and award them exemplary punishment. The officials and protestors’ leaders held rounds of talks but that yielded no results.
It may be mentioned that routine life was disrupted when the workers and supporters of NDM and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged sit-ins and kept blocked the roads at various points to protest the alleged rigging in election results in North Waziristan tribal district on February 10 last.
The NDM and PTI workers and supporters had staged protest sit-ins at various areas, including Miranshah, Darpakhel and others, to protest the killing of their workers and alteration of the poll results on NA-40 and PK-103 and PK-104 constituencies, which continued for several days. Also, the elders of Mohsin Dawar’s tribe – Darpakhel - had forwarded its charter of demands to the government.
Two persons were killed and six others, including NDM Chairman Mohsin Dawar, had sustained injuries in a firing incident when his party workers were staging a protest against the delay in election results in North Waziristan.
