Winners of two Sindh Assembly seats, three NA seats from Sindh yet to be notified
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued notifications of a total of 186 candidates elected to the Sindh Assembly and the National Assembly on general seats from Sindh as a result of the February 8 general elections.
The ECP has formally issued notification of candidates elected on 128 out of 130 general seats in the Sindh Assembly as a result of the February 8 general elections.
Of the returned candidates notified by the ECP, 84 MPAs-elect belong to the Pakistan Peoples Party who are all set to assume the treasury seats in the new house of the Sindh Assembly. The PPP being a majority party in the new house of the Sindh Assembly will form the Sindh government for a consecutive fourth term.
As per the ECP’s notifications, 27 of the MPAs-elect belong to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P). Thirteen of the MPAs-elect are independents, including those backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. These independent lawmakers-elect have been given three days after the issuance of the notifications to formally join any political party in the house.
Two of the MPAs-elect belong to the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA). One MPA-elect belongs to the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).
Of the 47 general seats of Karachi in the Sindh Assembly, the ECP has issued the notifications for 45 seats. In the case of Karachi, 25 MPAs-elect are from the MQM-P, 10 from the PPP, nine are independents, and one MPA is from the JI.
The ECP has not formally issued notifications for two seats of Karachi — PS-115 and PS-129. Apart from Karachi, 74 MPAs-elect are from the PPP, four are independents, and two each are from the MQM-P and GDA.
National Assembly
The ECP has also issued a notification of 58 candidates elected against a total of 61 general seats of the National Assembly from Sindh. Of these MNAs-elect, 42 are from the PPP and 16 are from the MQM-P.
The ECP has issued notifications for candidates elected against 21 out of 22 Karachi’s general seats of the National Assembly. In the case of Karachi, 14 MNAs-elect are from the MQM-P and seven belong to the PPP.
Outside Karachi, 35 MNAs are from the PPP and two from the MQM-P. The ECP has yet to issue the notifications for the seats NA-224, NA-227 and NA-238 from Sindh.
