Moot arranged to enhance women’s role in peacebuilding

BARA: A three-day regional moot was arranged in Peshawar to enhance the role of women in peacebuilding.

Community Resilience Activity North in collaboration with the Social Protection and Gender Mainstreaming (SP&GM) Unit of the Planning and Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, organized the event.

As many as 35 participants, including 20 women from Swat and the merged districts of Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, North Waziristan, attended the moot.

Women youth leaders, social workers, religious leaders and the KP governmental officials from the Social Welfare, Education, Local Government departments and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on Status of Women were there.

The organisers said the purpose was to empower local government, civil society organizations, women and social workers from the newly merged districts for building a resilient society and highlighting the role of women in a peaceful society.

Discussions took place on peace, empowerment of women, their participation in political activities, social protection and gender mainstreaming, social cohesion, interfaith harmony, and the role of civil society on the subject.

Research Officer Hazrat Bilal, SP&GM, Unit Department of Planning and Development, said that this was a good platform for us to discuss the role of women in social cohesion and peace building.

Mufti Fazlur Rehman Haqqani, member of Muttahida Ulema Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from North Waziristan, said organizing the moot was the need of the hour. He suggested that such events should be organized within newly merged districts to benefit a greater number of people.

He proposed that the religious scholars from different schools of thought should be engaged in such initiatives because they can go to their respective areas and convey the message in the light of the Holy Quran and Sunnah easily.Certificates were distributed among the participants.
