PMLN, JUIF fail to evolve consensus on seat adjustment
RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PMlN) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) are finding it difficult to reach seat adjustments in various constituencies of Punjab particularly in Rawalpindi division.
A meeting between former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and JUIF Secretary General Abdul Ghafoor Haideri which held on Monday for seat adjustment in two National Assembly constituencies NA-51 and NA-56 ended without any result here on Monday.
Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri sought support of senior PMLN leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for his party's candidate Professor Zubair Abbasi from NA-51 which comprises Murree, Kahutta and Kotli Sattian tehsils of Rawalpindi.
Interestingly, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi who has opted to stay away from general elections has fielded his son Nadir Khaqan Abbasi from the constituency.
From NA-56, the PMLN has fielded Danial Chaudhry who is son party's stawlart Chaudhry Tanvir Khan and is very close to party's Qauid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
The JUIF leadership has given ticket to Dr Hafiz Ziaur Rehman from NA-56 Rawalpindi. Both JUI-F candidates Professor Zubair Abbasi and Hafiz Ziaur Rehman were also present at the meeting.
A statement issued by the JUIF media wing said that both sides held detailed discussion regarding February 08 elections while Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri advised Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to jointly contest elections on NA-51.
The statement said that two senior leaders of their parties also decided to meet again on the same issue in the next few days.
