Pakistan continue World Cup losing streak against India

ADELAIDE: India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by 76 runs in their opening World Cup clash at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The defending champions made 300 for seven from their 50 overs after electing to bat.

In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 224 with skipper Misbah-ul-Haq making 76.

India have now won all six of their World Cup matches against Pakistan.
Batting first after winning the toss by captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni, India made 300 for seven wickets in the fifty-over innings.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings against fast bowlers Mohammad Irfan and Sohail Khan but Dhawan fell to Sohail for 15 when India were on 34.

Then India’s most prolific batsman Kohli joined Dhawan and both added 129 runs for the second wicket before Dhawan was run out.

He made 73 off 76 balls with seven fours and a six.

However, Kohli was involved in another hundred-run partnership as he and Suraish Raina added 110 runs for the third wicket..

Raina scored 74 off 56 balls with three sixes and five boundaries.

Meanwhile, Kohli reached his century, 22nd in his 151st ODI. He ultimately fell for 107.

Later, Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane were also dismissed as India lost four wickets for just 16 runs.

Sohail Khan bowled well for Pakistan to capture five wickets, his career-best bowling performance.
