Ed Sheeran's Foxborough concerts at risk

Ed Sheeran's upcoming shows at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, may end up being canceled.

However, this time weather is to blame rather than the ongoing controversy tied to Macklemore's removal from his tour.

Production sources have said a storm moving through the Northeast has disrupted construction of Sheeran's stage ahead of his scheduled Friday and Saturday performances, per TMZ. 

Crews reportedly paused building efforts Thursday after concerns arose that expected rain and wind could make the outdoor venue unsafe or damage stage equipment. 

One source indicated the stage was mostly complete aside from lighting, which crews were still testing Thursday evening. 

As of now, no final decision has been made about whether the shows will be postponed or canceled outright if the weather doesn't improve.

The venue has already been at the center of controversy this month, after Macklemore publicly claimed he was removed from Sheeran's tour due to pressure from Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft, following backlash over Macklemore's political remarks onstage. 

Several other tour acts, including Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, and the band Beoga, exited the tour in solidarity afterward.

Addressing the situation during a show in Philadelphia last weekend, Sheeran said he never intended to become part of a political controversy and never saw himself as an activist musician.

Separately, Macklemore announced a new series of his own tour dates set to begin next month, with proceeds going toward charity.
