Early criticism took a real toll on Suki Waterhouse when she first launched her music career.

The 34-year-old singer, who released her debut album, "I Can't Let Go," in May 2022, recently opened up about how sensitive she was to negative feedback during that period.

"I remember when I first put out my first song and there were all these articles that it failed to chart, and then I did a show, and someone came to the show and wrote that there'd been two false starts and it was the worst show ever and a failure. I remember that s*** really bumming me out," she told the Interview magazine.

She admitted the criticism affected her deeply at the time, even though it didn't stop her from continuing. "It doesn't stop you, but I did have that feeling for a long time."

She further described the phase, assuring she's now moved past that phase in her career.

"When you're younger and you're trying to change a path, or the way that people see you, and now I feel like I'm broken through on the other side of that in a way."

Waterhouse, who also has a modeling background with brands like Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger and some films to her credit, including Insurgent, The Bad Batch, and Detective Pikachu, said she hopes to eventually return to acting, though music remains her main focus for now.

Speaking with Variety, she explained that balancing both careers comes down to timing, especially as she juggles touring with her personal life. She's been engaged to actor Robert Pattinson since 2023.
