Travis Kelce becomes victim of multimillion-dollar Ponzi scheme
Travis Kelce unwittingly invested in a company thatturned out to be a fraud front
Travis Kelce, one of the widely recognized athletes, reportedly has been trapped in a fraud.
That's what the latest reports indicate: that Siddharth Jawahar, an ex-investment adviser, ran a Ponzi scheme, and among his victims is the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
Kelce reportedly poured investment into Swiftarc, a company 'Sid' co-founded, for probably a handsome return.
Now, in custody, Jawahar pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud charges.
Prosecutors, meanwhile, explained how the convicted fraudster's Ponzi scheme worked.
According to them, Jawahar drew in new investors. With that money, he paid off his earlier financiers.
Meanwhile, the criminal reportedly used the funds to bankroll his lavish lifestyle.
That includes traveling in a private plane, staying in plush hotels, and dining out at pricey restaurants.
Prosecutors put the figure at $25 million in losses the investors incurred.
Interestingly, during the trial, Missouri Congressman Sam Graves wrote a letter to the federal judge.
He asked the judge to hand down a lighter sentence to Jawahar: 4 years.
However, the judge declined the request and ordered him to serve 11 years.
Jawahar, who has reportedly been in the U.S. illegally since 2005, is in Ste Genevieve County jail.
