Sheryl Lee Ralph shares key reason why 'Abbott Elementary' secured 2026 Emmy nomination

Sheryl Lee Ralph was all supportive of her show, Abbott Elementary, while criticizing the Emmy Awards ahead of the main event.

Before the star-studded 78th Primetime Emmy Award at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California, on Monday, September 14, the 69-year-old American actress and singer chatted with E! News, where she called Abbott Elementary “the only real comedy.”

Ralph, who plays Barbara Howard in the American mockumentary sitcom television series, articulated her thoughts by saying, “Abbott Elementary, top of the conversation — nominated for best cast.”

“I’m looking forward to a win since we’re the only real comedy in the category,” she added.

Notably, despite Ralph’s unwavering support for the show, Abbott Elementary could not stand out at the 2026 Emmy Awards, as Stephen Root’s Widow’s Bay stood victorious.

Also, people also threw shade at different shows for not having fun comedic elements in them, especially The Bear, which often depicts more disturbing and depressing scenes than funny ones.

It is pertinent to mention that Abbott Elementary, which dropped its first season on December 7, 2021, is scheduled to drop its sixth season on ABC on October 7, 2026.
