UK military member killed in Ukraine in ‘non-hostile’ road incident

A member of the British armed forces has been killed in a road traffic incident in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.

The unnamed service member died on Saturday. The incident is understood not to have been the result of hostile action.

The person’s family has been informed and has requested time before further details are released.

“Our thoughts and our sympathies are with the individual’s loved ones at this difficult time,” an MoD spokesperson said.

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting also offered his condolences, writing on X: “This is very sad news for the family and for those grieving with them in our Armed Forces. My deepest condolences go to them all.”

A small number of British military personnel are currently in Ukraine, where they provide security for diplomats and support Ukrainian armed forces.

The death comes months after British paratrooper George Hooley, 28, was killed in Ukraine in December while observing Ukrainian forces testing defensive capabilities.
