King Charles poses as 'neutral convenor' in AI leaders huddle in Scotland
King Charles will meet the leaders of artificial intelligence at The King’s Foundation
King Charles has championed global issues that challenge the world, such as climate change, water scarcity, and now artificial intelligence.
Now, the leaders of some of the who's who in the artificial intelligence world are huddling at Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland.
The force behind the high-profile meet is Charles, who is urging the tech moguls to develop AI in a way that is safer and better for society.
An insider knowledgeable about the meeting told The Sunday Times, "The King is there to convene, listen and encourage those discussions and to pose the question of, 'How do we develop AI for the good of humanity?’
The royal source continued, “As we’ve seen him do on issues like the environment and water scarcity, he is hoping to provide a neutral space to aid conversations that are part of a national and global issue on something that is going to impact all of us.”
Nvidia, Anthropic, Google DeepMind and OpenAI leaders will be present in Scotland.
From the meeting, the source said Charles “hopes the discussions bring about a wider understanding of the responsibilities of developing this technology, as well as the opportunities, ensuring any technological development remains centred around human benefit for communities."
“He knows it will impact everyone in society. He wants to ask the question, 'Would it be helpful to have a set of principles? ’"
"His feeling is it is not an easy thing to do, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try," the insider noted.
The meeting comes on the heels of alarms raised within the artificial intelligence industry to strengthen guardrails around the growing technology.
