Netflix makes 'Scooby-Doo' history with first real Great Dane in new show

In Scooby-Doo, the titular canine, a Great Dane, often came alive with CGI or as an animated character.

But now, in the upcoming Netflix live-action series based on the hit cartoon, it will be a live-action Great Dane.

According to Variety, this is a first for the Scooby-Doo franchise.

Meanwhile, production on the series has been finished.

The show's cast includes McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones.

Apart from that, the series cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser (as Scooby-Doo’s owner), Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin, and Cathy Moriarty.

Moreover, the synopsis for Scooby-Doo: Origins describes it as a “modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.”

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” the logline said.

“Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange but ever-so-handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

Netflix’s Scooby-Doo: Origins will be set to release in 2027.
